The Songs of Michael David Wong

Michael passed away in 2009, at the age of 28. He left behind a catalog of demo songs and live band material, which he had hoped to record in a studio but never had the chance.

I started this project in an attempt to complete his dream for him.

The arrangements were re-imagined using Suno Studio and Logic Pro. The base arrangements for all the songs followed a set of basic requirements – each must be faithful to the original demo song as sung by Michael, by adhering strictly to its melody, harmony, rhythmic feel and lyrics.

Further musical refinements were then done by adding, editing and replacing tracks in the base arrangement. Michael’s vocals from the demos were cloned and superimposed onto the new arrangements.

Final mixing and mastering were done in Logic Pro.

I remember once, when going to a comedic movie with him, I asked why he wasn't laughing. He replied "I am, in my head". Hopefully these arrangements will extract a cerebral smile from him.
